the PCM will turn off the light after the 3rd consecutive "trip" with no failure of the system detected. The light will go off, but it may take awhile. Being as this is a different style of fan clutch (PCM controlled whereas most clutch fans are soley temperature controlled) it will act and sound different than you may expect or be used to. read this: based on the fact the there is a feedback sensor in the fan clutch, the PCM would know if the fan speed was high when the PCM did not request it and your check engine light would have been on before we made it come on. See if the symptoms you are experiencing fall into what is considered "normal operation". this is the information on fan clutch operation. Here is what the PCM takes into account to detrmine how to control the fan. To be quite honest, that sounds like normal operation.
